Cadet Obligations

To join AFROTC at Det 105, you must still have atleast 3 years until you graduate.  See the Join Det 105 page for more info.

  • As a freshman/sophomore, there is a one-hour class, a 2-hr LLab, and 2 hours of PT each week. The average amount of time spent on AFROTC related tasks is 6-7 hrs/week.
    • Freshman Option:  For those cadets on scholarship, the first year is considered a "trial basis". If a cadet chooses to leave AFROTC at any point during that first year, they accrue no obligation to the Air Force.  After attending the first day of sophomore year, the cadet then becomes obligated if they break their contract (either by being pulled to active duty or being required to pay their scholarship money back).
  • As a junior/senior cadet, there is a 3-hr class, a 2-hr LLab, and 2 hrs of PT each week. Juniors and Seniors have more responsibilities in corps activities and are responsible for executing the cadet training program.  The average time spent on AFROTC related tasks as a junior/senior is 10-30 hrs/week.

Non-contracted cadets: If a cadet has not contracted (not on scholarship), then they may leave the program at any time. Once they sign a contract, they become obligated as stated above.

After AFROTC:  After graduating and commissioning through AFROTC, the service obligation required depends on the cadet's chosen field.  Operational career fields accrue more of an obligation due to increased training requirements.  For example: a pilot will accrue more of a service commitment than a Communications Officer.
